Huckabee's Heart

Mike Huckabee, an outspoken conservative Republican is considered one of the favorites to be nominated by the Republican Party for President in 2012. Before Huckabee became a Fox News Analyst, he was the Governor of Arkansas. Governor Huckabee was known from giving out clemency for inmates who were in jail for heinous crimes. His reasoning for pardoning so many prisoners and shortening their jail length was because he was a religious man. Huckabee often spoke on his belief in redemption and that even criminals care capable of changing their lives and often deserve a second chance. Maurice Clemmons is one of the inmates from Arkansas that Governor Huckabee shortened his sentence, so he could get out on parole. Maurice Clemmons eventually got out on parole and now Clemmons is the main suspect of killing four uniformed police officers on Sunday as they sat in a coffee shop in Tacoma, Washington. During Huckabee’s tenure as Governor he granted more than 1,000 clemency’s or pardons. Inmates in Arkansas knew of Governors leniency, so they would write to him asking for forgiveness and Huckabee would pardon them from their crimes. Governor Huckabee shortened the prison sentence of so many men because of his religious views. In some cases for clemency Huckabee followed recommendations from Baptist preachers. Mike Huckabee should not have let his religious views construe very important decisions that came with the responsibility of being Governor of Arkansas. Governor Huckabee shortened the sentence of Maurice Clemmons because of his religious views and now Clemmons has murdered four cops in Tacoma, Washington.
