Stem Cell Research

The National Institutes of Health has approved thirteen new human embryonic stem cell lines for use by federally financed researchers, while another ninety six lines are under review. When President Obama came to office he overturned President Bush’s policy on stem cell research. President George W. Bush only allowed research to begin with lines that were available by August 9, 2001. While Bush was in office the National Institutes of Health had to raise money privately in order to keep doing their research. They would raise money privately to do research on cells which were obtained from fertilized embryos leftover from fertility clinics. Dr. Daley is happy President Obama overturned the law because private financing for stem cell research was starting to dry up. This is big news for researchers and for people who support using federal money to research embryonic stem cells. This is a very important time for scientists to make a break through with stem cell research. They now have support of President Obama and the Federal government, which will give them the opportunity to have a major breakthrough with stem cell research. I don’t think we should be using Federal government’s money for stem cell research because I think it is unethical. I believe in pro life and that is why I disagree with doing research on embryos.

  1. I see your concern about the government spending money on Embryonic stem cell research. This research has resulted in 0 breakthroughs in the medical field. On the other hand, not all stem cell research is killing life as you believe, Adult stem cell research has given more than 60 breakthroughs and all it requires is a simple blood draw to study them. Please understand why I am pointing out the different stem cell studies. My grandfather had 2 blood cancers a few years ago. they extracted stem cells and then gave him kemo. Then they put his own adult stem cells in his body to bring back his white blood cells witch were killed off by the kemo. he is now healthy and loves his life. Without this research he would not be here today, and since it was his own cells no embryos were harmed.
